Friendly Reminder: You Are Awesome!
Sometimes life gets you down. Sometimes life gets you really down. Sometimes you feel stressed, sad, worthless, and a whole other string of negative emotions. So here’s a friendly reminder that all those feelings don’t define you. One mistake is not the end of the world. You are awesome!
Early adulthood can be hard. For many people, graduating college leads into the huge unknown. Jobs aren’t always easy to find. Maybe you have to move back in with your parents. Some of us who were wildly successful through high school and college may not be as immediately successful in the real world.
Adulthood is hard even for those who get a job right out of college or have a clear path in front of them. It can be difficult to prove yourself in a new job, and small mistakes may seem huge and life-altering. Grad school can be very different from an undergraduate education, and you may feel even more pressure and stress to do well.
Depression, anxiety, self-doubt, poor body image, poor self-confidence. These are all feelings that can overwhelm us at some point or another as we begin life in the real world. But you know what? You are awesome.
You are awesome for continuing to go to work and busting your ass to make a name for yourself when the odds seem like they’re against you. For coming back from a mistake. For coming up with a new idea when everyone doubted you.
You are awesome for continuing to job search after dozens of rejections. For being creative in finding a new job and creating new skills for yourself.
You are awesome for working menial jobs to pay for grad school. For staying up late to finish that paper even though you had class and a shift and have been awake for who knows how long.
You are awesome for just getting out of bed on a day when you really, really didn’t want to. For getting dressed when every fiber of your being is protesting.
You are awesome for getting out there and networking. For talking to someone you’ve never met despite your heart feeling like it’s going to jump out of your chest.
You are awesome for looking in the mirror and smiling at yourself. For finding an outfit that you don’t entirely hate on your body, and then deciding you like it more and more throughout the day.
You’re awesome even when you decide to take a day off because you just can’t do it anymore. You’re awesome even when you fail a test. You’re awesome for staying in bed and not getting dressed on a day when the clouds are a little too dark and the weight is a little too much to bear. You’re awesome for staying in and not talking to people for a night. You’re awesome even when you have negative thoughts about yourself or your body or how others perceive you.
You are awesome. No matter what. For all that you are or aren’t. You are awesome.
