Pay It Forward: 4 Places to Donate to in Lieu of Holiday Gifts
We are currently in that post-Black Friday, pre-week before Christmas rush, so some of you may still be planning what gifts you want to give others, or put on your own Christmas list. But what if you do things a little differently this year?
Over the last several years, each time someone has asked me what I want for Christmas, I go on a rant about how I don’t need more *stuff* and I’m trying to get rid of excess clutter in my life. Usually, this leaves my family stumped on what to give me. This year, in lieu of sending me gifts, I’m asking for donations to any of the following organizations.
If you support LGBTQ+ rights:
The Trevor Project is the first 24 hour LGBTQ+ crisis interventiona and suicide prevention hotline directly supporting teens and young adults ages 13-24. To become an in-person or digital volunteer, click here. To donate money directly, click here.
If you love animals:
Cat House on the Kings is probably heaven on earth. Watch some of their YouTube videos and you’ll understand. Essentially, if you love cats, you should support them. Click here to learn about their many donation opportunities.
If you’re an advocate for women’s health:
Planned Parenthood clinics provide a variety of reproductive health services including birth control, STD testing, pregnancy tests, and more. Specifically, they provide services to many who would not otherwise have the financial means to obtain them. To donate, click here.
If you’re an advocate for health justice:
Jubilee Consortium is a Los-Angeles based non-profit focusing on health justice and service work. In 2013, I moved to LA as part of Jubilee’s EUIP program. If you are between 21-29, have a Bachelor’s degree, and are passionate about service work, apply to the program by clicking here. To donate money, click here.
